Oral History of NBA’s Worst Brawl Ever
February 29, 2012
Jonathan Abrams at ESPN.com’s Grantland has one heck of a read about “The Malice at the Palace,” the 2004 brawl between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons – and fans – with comments from many of the people involved, including the guy at the very center of the action, Metta World Peace himself.
Donaghy: It was just mayhem, to the point where you actually feared for your life. We didn’t know at that point if somebody was going to pull a gun or a knife. Fans were coming out onto the floor and challenging players to fights right out on the floor. It was at a level that I’ve never seen before.
It’s a long read – but gripping, and worth every second.
If you didn’t see it, or need a refresher – yowza.
